"Theo's at 10,000ft" lunch an overwhelming success

June 1, 2015

The annual "Theo's at 10,000ft" event is one of our most popular fundraising events, and yesterday was the special day for our 2014 winner to take the the skies with his guests.

It was a gorgeous sunny day in Penticton, and lucky Karl H. of Penticton along with his three selected guests were treated to a first class high altitude lunch overlooking Skaha Lake. Karl had purchased the lucky winning raffle ticket last year, which was drawn in the fall.

The day started with plentiful behind-the-scenes work:  Manisha and Shadi of OSNS, Nikos and Chef David from Theo's, and Derek from Eclipse Helicopters loaded a table, chairs, dinnerware, all sorts of delicious foods, and a portable kitchen into the net hanging underneath Derek's helicopter, which was then slung up to a gorgeous lunch spot high atop Skaha Lake.

Meanwhile,  Karen of Grape Friends Lounge & Tours picked up Karl and guests at their home, providing them with a VIP start to the day with included transportation.  Everyone was dressed in formal attire, for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure.  After arriving at the heliport, they were loaded up into Eclipse Helicopter's aircraft, for a scenic flight over Penticton.

Upon arrival at the lunch location, Karl and company disembarked to the live music of classical guitar player Jonathan Stuchbery, who performed beautiful backdrop music over the course of the lunch.

In the 'kitchen' overlooking the dining guests, Chef David (of Theo's) served up a luscious five course feast, with wine pairings courtesy of the Naramata Bench Winery Association.

The menu consisted of:

- Barley Rusks with grated tomato, feta cheese, olive oil, garlic and fresh Oregano

- Giant white beans, soaked overnight and baked with tomatoes, onions, red wine vinegar, fresh dill and Okanagan honey.

- Watermelon Salad with Feta cheese, pine nuts, fresh mint and Penticton honey

- Grilled New Zealand Lamb Chops Served with Grilled vegetables, roasted potatoes

- Baklava (thin filo pastry layers filled with honey and walnuts) with fresh berry compote.

We at the OSNS would like to thank all of the generous sponsors of this event - we couldn't have done it without each and every one of you!
