Motorcycle Raffle Raises Money for OSNS
$38,000 was raised for the Okanagan Similkameen Neurological Society (OSNS) Child and Youth Development Centre in the 2016 Harley raffle.
The Okanagan Motorcycle Riders Association took the 2016 Heritage Softail Classic Harley Davidson to venues throughout the South Okanagan almost every weekend - hockey games, concerts, trade shows and events like the Peach City Beach Cruise.
OSNS Executive Director Manisha Wilms says,” OSNS Rallying cry is “The Relentless Pursuit of Excellence in Care” - OMRA embodied this in their ‘relentless’ mission of raising money for our pediatric services. The Harley Raffle is such a great event and the OMRA folks who help us out are fantastic. The raffle provides us with critical resources to purchase treatment materials for our children. This year we need to update our resources for parents as well as our seating equipment for children who have challenges with muscle control. Thank you to OMRA and to all the wonderful people who purchased a ticket and supported our work.”
The grand prize raffle was done at the Peach City Beach Cruise in Gyro Park with Penticton Mayor Andrew Jakubeit turning his back to the giant bin of names and crouching down to pull the winning ticket. Penticton’s Wayne Popoff was the lucky winner of the raffle.
Popoff has a history with OSNS as his son Tyler (pictured with Wayne in the photo) started attending the Centre in 2000 at the age of four. Tyler was adopted with little concrete documentation. He was diagnosed as Moderately Intellectually Disabled and would require support for the rest of his life. Further diagnosis revealed FASD, ADHD and Attachment Disorder.
