Helping Kids With Anxiety

Did you know one in every five people in Canada will suffer from some kind of mental illness? You may think anxiety only affects adults, but in fact, kids as young as three years old can suffer from anxiety. We have children at OSNS who are currently being taught skills at a very young age to deal with anxiety. Now, we are offering a three part series.

The first session will be for parents only and the second and third will be for parents and their child. We haven't settled on specific dates, but are planning for February.

We are specifically looking for those 4-5, pre-kindergarten ages, as they would be able to understand some of the things we will be doing. But, if there is a number of younger children, we may look at expanding our sessions.

Priority would be given to pre-kindergarten aged clients already receiving OSNS services or on waitlists, but we would like to open it up to the community too.

Session 1: Parent Only, "What is anxiety and what does it look like in children"

Session 2: Parent & Child: We will draw/color our anxiety to make it concrete and name it (which make it easier for kids to understand it), then we will also create/make our "helper figure" that will help us conquer our anxiety.

Session 3: Parent & Child: We will make and learn how to use our "worry box" and explore some strategies that parents can use to help validate their child's feelings of worry and how to support them moving forward.

Please call us if you would like more information on these sessions.
