Press Release: OSNS to begin Pediatric Gym Flooring Replacement Project, Thanks to Recent Support f

For Immediate Release July 15, 2015

PENTICTON, BC: The OSNS Child & Youth Development Centre’s Pediatric Gym gets hours of use daily by its many children receiving therapeutic treatment, and the current carpet and linoleum flooring has exceeded the end of its life span. The gym is in dire need of a replacement floor, and much of the Centre’s recent fundraising has been designated towards the eventual replacement of this surface. After consultation with contractors, a non-permeable rubber floor has been deemed to be the best option – however - it comes at a high cost.

This week, the Centre learned that it has received a grant to assist with the purchase of this flooring surface, and the project can now be underway sooner than expected. The OSNS is thrilled to announce that we have been selected as a grant recipient for the Tire Stewardship BC’s (TSBC) 2015 Community Grant Program. This program encourages projects that make use of recycled tires and other rubber products, and the grant allows these often-expensive projects to be financially accessible to registered non-profits. The Tire Stewardship grant is generously providing nearly 50% towards the cost of this project. The remaining cost will be funded by various donations, including our most recent generous donation of $1000 by the Penticton Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies' Auxiliary. The floor will be provided by and installed by Penticton’s own Home Hardware. Once the flooring is replaced, a fresh coat of paint and the installation of our much anticipated Pediatric Climbing Wall will round out the gym makeover.

The OSNS would like to thank the Fraternal Order of Eagles (Ladies’ Auxiliary), Penticton Home Hardware, Tire Stewardship BC, and all other businesses and individuals who have contributed to make this flooring project come to reality. Be sure to tune in to our annual Share-a-Smile Telethon on Sunday, November 15 to witness the reveal of the brand new Pediatric Gym!
